  1. No tears do we shed for the faithless,

    even if their rejection and our parting leave us grief-stricken.

  2. Our patience with them deceived them, so they thought

    that forsaking them was bitter to us.

  3. Do not return, nor hold over us as a favor

    whatever you bestow on the day we meet.

  4. We shall come to our senses, and every rapture of love—

    the nights that remain will bear it away.
