For joy, when I am lost in love with you, I nearly

Go mad with rapture and ardor—and burn.

If you do not visit a youth whom separation from you wastes away,

Before long he will race toward the dwellings.

Garden City is your refuge and your home,

And from its bowers the lights burst forth.

There you are the flowers in all their radiant freshness,

And you are the full moon when darkness settles upon it.

Do not, with painful rebuff, quench the fire of a love

That, from your desertion, nearly withers and suffocates.
