You forgot the promise and found rest

From the agony of the faithful keeper

فليت ما راضكم فنمتم

أراح بعد النوى جفوني

I wish you hadn’t been satisfied and slept

To give respite after intention to my eyelids

وليتني إذ يئستُ منكم

كبحتُ في غربتي شجوني

And I wish when I despaired of you

I had restrained my laments in my exile

ولّى خداع المنى وقرّت

مطامحُ الواجد الحزينِ

The deception of wishes passed

And the aspirations of the sad longing one

فما بكائي على حبيبٍ

لم تقضَ في حبه ديوني

So my crying is not over a loved one

Whose love did not fulfill my debts

ألقيتُ بالنفس من هواهُ

في لجةِ السحر والفتون

I flung myself from his love

In the abyss of sorcery and temptations

وقلت أرتادُ من صباه

ملاعب الطيش والجنونِ

And said I will revisit from his youth

The playgrounds of frivolity and madness

فما تذوقتُ من جناهُ

إلا صدى النوح والأنينِ

But I never tasted of his paradise

Except the echo of wailing and moaning

يا روعة البدر في سماه

وفتنة الزهر في الغصون

O magnificence of the full moon in its sky

And temptation of flowers on the branches

تناس ما شئت تخبو

حرارةُ الدمع في الشئون

Forget what you wish, you hide

The heat of tears in feelings

وسوف تبلى على الليالي

غرائبُ السحر في العيون

And the wonders of magic in the eyes

Will wear out over the nights

أستغفر الحب سوف يبقى

على صروف الأسى حنيني

I ask forgiveness, love will remain

With the turns of sorrow, my yearning
