إلى شاطئ فيه إغراقكم

رميناكم الرمية القاضيه

To a shore where you drowned us

We threw you the decisive throw

ويا بدر أهلوك ما خطبهم

فما أعين منهمو باكيه

Oh Badr, what happened to his people?

No weeping eyes among them

فقدتك حيا وبئس الحياة

لنفس على غدرها باقيه

I lost you alive and miserable is this life

To a soul that remains deceitful

صحا القلب من حب مفتونة

من الغدر لم تك بالصاحيه

The heart sobered from the love of an infatuated one

Who was not awake from the deceit

سلام عليها إذا سرها

سلام على روحي الفانيه

Peace be upon her if she was happy

Peace be upon my fleeting soul

مضينا إلى البحر نلهو به

ونصرع أمواجه الطاغيه

We went to the sea to frolic in it

And topple its tyrannical waves

فلم نر من فوق أثباجه

سوى الغدر من رمم باليه

But from above its disturbance

We saw nothing but deceit from crumbling ruins

وبالغدر يرقد أهل الجمال

كما ترقد البلدة النائيه

And with deceit lie the people of beauty

As the distant village lies

غرام قضيناه في غفوة

ولم تك أيامنا غافيه

A love we spent in slumber

And our days were not napping

وأيامنا في النهار المضىء

بنوركمو ليلة داجيه

And our days in the past glowing light

With your light a dark night

سقى الغدر أنفسكم فارتوت

وللغدر نافورة ساقيه

Deceit quenched your souls so they were saturated

And for deceit a water-pourer

أبحتم من الهجو ما لا يباح

ففي هجوكم جادت القافيه

You revealed from calumny what must not be revealed

So in your calumny the rhyme flowed
