  3. قضيت الليل أصرخ من غرامي

    ولم يظفر غرامي بالسميع

    I spent the night crying out from my passion

    But my passion did not reach the Listener

  4. ظباء البحر والعرى اجتلاهم

    بدوا مثل الأهلة في الطلوع

    The sea gazelles and the does appeared

    Like the crescent moon at dawn

  5. نظرت إليهمو والقلب خال

    فأمسى وهو مسكون الربوع

    I looked at them while my heart was empty

    So it remained inhabited by meadows

  6. نهانى من نهانى عن غرامي

    ولم أك قط يوما بالمطيع

    Those who advised me advised against my passion

    And I was never an obedient one

  7. يا بحر ما هذه الأجسام سابحة

    كأنها النور في أحشاء ديجور

    O sea what are these floating bodies

    As if they were light in the belly of darkness

  8. وما رعابيب تختال الحياة بها

    ما بين عين يصدن القلب أو حور

    And what are the maidens exuding life

    Between an alluring eye or a houri

  9. جآذر ثبج الأمواج ملعبهم

    وهن أشبه لطفا بالعصافير

    Anchored, calm waves are their playground

    They are most gentle like little birds

  10. غنيت للرمل والحسن المطيف به

    داوود يعجب من هذه المزامير

    I sang to the sand and the beauty gliding on it

  11. نزلت أسبح علّ الماء ينفعني

    والبحر يضرب أمواجا بأمواج

    I went down to swim, may the water benefit me

  12. والوجه صبح تنير الليل طلعته

    مثل المصابيح وهاجا لوهاج

    The face's dawn, its rising illuminates the night

    Like lamps, turbulent and heaving

  13. لقد غدوت إلى الشيطان أسأله

    هل في اختطاف خدود الغيد من حرج

    I came to ask Satan

    Is there any shame in stealing the cheeks of the beautiful?

  14. وهل حرام وهذا الشيب مزدهر

    أن يصبح المرء تمثالا من العوج

    Is it forbidden, with this flowering gray hair
