  1. أقول لذي طربٍ ضاحكٍ

    إذا مل ذو النسك من نسكه

    I say to the one with joyful mirth -

    If the ascetic tires of his ascetic ways -

  2. دع النسك ويحك لا تبغه

    وعاون أخاك على فتكه

    Leave asceticism, woe to you, do not seek it -

    And help your brother in his struggle -

  3. ولا تقع الدهر في صاحب

    وإن أكثروا فيه بل زكه

    Do not blame the times for a friend -

    Though they revile him, rather glorify him -

  4. ولا تبكين على ناسكٍ

    وإن مات ذو طربٍ فابكه

    Do not cry over an ascetic -

    Though one of joyful mirth dies, weep for him -

  5. وبك من وجدت من العالمين

    فإن الندامة في تركه

    But weep for those in all the world -

    Whom you find regretful for neglecting Him
