O Rose of the Turks, truly I am the Rose of the Arabs;
between us, then, we have found the closest kinship.
Your father bestowed upon you that art whose graces became renowned
among the people of learning and letters.
Thus, among the women of the age, you rose
to the highest stations in standing and rank.
O you who revealed a pearl of speech that came to tell us
of a gracious nature that has become a wonder among people.
You are she who, merely on hearing of her, enthralled the lover’s heart,
and from his heart she never departed.
Noble lady—reports of her adorned my ear like earrings,
though she remained veiled from sight behind curtains.
Coming to the fore, you have ennobled the standing of this art
with gracious charm and judgment free of wavering.
You adorn the page with script you embellish,
and it shines forth like a necklace of lustrous pearls.
