لا تَستَعِر جَلَداً على هِجرانِهِم

فقُواكَ تَضعُفُ عن صُدُودٍ دَائِمِ

Do not insist on their friendship if they forsake you,

For defiance will fade against enduring aversion.

واعلَمْ بأنَّكَ إن رجَعتَ إليهِمُ

طوعاً وإلاّ عُدتَ عودَةَ راغِمِ

Know that if you return to them willingly or not,

You will return under duress.
