My soul is the ransom for the one I kissed hastily

And separation wonders at my passion and my haste

So he turned his mouth from me then turned his cheek to me

A cheek where the water of beauty and shyness flowed

So my tears watered his rose garden

Increasing the radiance of that rose with the moisture

So he shivered from the heat of my breaths and the burning

Of my desire and prohibition, his sweet mouth in kisses

And what he saw of my pleasure frightened him so he wept

And said, “If only this were not the farewell of a traveler.”
