1. لقد عمَّ جُودُ الأفضَلَ السَّيِّدَ الوَرَى

    وأغنَى غَناءَ الغَيثِ حيثُ يَصُوبُ

    The generosity of the virtuous master has spread goodness throughout the land

    And enriched it like plentiful rain wherever it goes

  2. أعدْتَ ربيعَ النَّاسِ في كلِّ بَلدةٍ

    فليسَ بها للرّائِدِين جُدُوبُ

    You have brought back the joy of life to every town

    Where there is no hardship for seekers

  3. وجادَت لهمُ بالمالِ يُمناكَ إنّها

    بَذُولٌ على بُخلِ الزّمانِ وَهُوبُ

    Your wealth has flowed freely through your right hand

    Generous despite the world’s stinginess and fear

  4. وفي كلِّ حيٍّ قد خَبَطْتَ بِنعمةٍ

    فحقٌّ لشَأسٍ من نَدَاك ذَنُوبُ

    In every neighborhood, you have blessed them with your gifts

    So it is right that your glory eclipses all sins

  5. غرَّني لامِعُ السّرابِ وهذا ال

    بحرُ دُوني عذبُ المياهِ شَروبُ

    A mirage deceived me, yet here is a sea

    With sweet water right beside me to drink my fill

  6. سرتُ أسْتَقْرِئُ المَحُولَ وفِي أر

    ضِيَ مَرْعى عِينٍ ووادٍ قَشيبُ

    I journeyed to seek sustenance, and on my land

    Are pastures for the eye and valleys that yield rain

  7. وسحابُ مِنهُ تعلَّمَتِ السُّحْ

    بُ وإن لم تُشبِهْهُ كيفَ تصوبُ

    The clouds learned bounty from you

    And if they cannot emulate you, how can they hit their mark?

  8. سوءُ حَظٍّ أنأَى عن الملِكِ الصا

    لِحِ وَالحظُّ ينتهي ويَثُوبُ

    Misfortune made me keep my distance from the righteous king

    But fortune will change and return

  9. وإلى بابِه مآلي وللآ

    بِقِ حُسنُ القَبولِ حين يُنِيبُ

    To his door lies my destination, and to the steadfast

    Comes the grace of acceptance when one turns to God

  10. غَابَ عنه جِسمِي وقلبيَ ما زا

    لَ مقيماً ببابِه لا يَغيبُ

    My body stayed away but my heart

    Remained, never leaving his door or going far

  11. فإذا ما سَمعتَ بالنّازحِ الدَّا

    ني فإنّي ذاكَ البعيدُ القريبُ

    When you hear of the humble visitor

    Know that I am that stranger who is yet so near

  12. ومتَى ما قَرُبْتُ منه فحَظّي

    من عُلاهُ التّقريبُ والتّرحيبُ

    Whenever I draw close, my fortune

    Is to be brought near and welcomed warmly

  13. وبما نِلتُ من نَدى الملِكِ الصّا

    لحِ أقسمتُ صَادِقاً لا أحوبُ

    When I attained the blessings of the righteous king

    I swore sincerely that I will never waver

  14. لا ثَناني البِعادُ عنه وإن حَا

    لَت أعادٍ من دُونِه وحُروبُ

    No distance or wars can distract me from him

    Or quench my heart that yearns to look upon his gentle face,

  15. أو يُروَّى بِرُؤْيتِي وجهَه المي

    مونَ قَلبِي الصّادِي وطَرْفي السّكُوبُ

    As people say Adam has regained immortality—

    Behold, this is wondrous indeed!

  16. ويقولَ الأنامُ آدمُ قد عَا

    دَ إلى الخُلدِ إنّ ذَا لَعجيبُ

    For my life, though it last until all I wish for is fulfilled

    Is bitter without the shade of his shelter

  17. فحياتِي وإن بلَغْتُ به المأ

    مولَ في غير ظِلِّهِ لا تَطيبُ

    O brothers of the desert! My dear kindred!

    If a brother forgets me, reproach him

  18. يا أخا البيد والسّرَى وأخِي البرْ

    رِ إذا عقّنِي أخٌ ونَسيبُ

    Say to my raincloud that pours forth in time of dire need,

    My rescuer when disasters have befallen me,

  19. قُل لِغيثِي الهتونِ في أزمةِ المح

    لِ وغَوثِي إن أرهَقَتْنِي الخطُوبُ

    Dispeller of gloom who rains goodness eternally,

    My springtime, do not withhold my share of your gifts

  20. كاشِفِ الغُمَّةِ المُبِرِّ على السح

    بِ بجودٍ مَدَى الزّمانِ يصوبُ

    I complain to you of a time that betrayed me

    And stripped me bare, leaving me destitute

  21. يا رَبِيعي المَريعَ حاشَاكَ أن تُمْ

    حِلَ رَبْعِي وَأنتَ ذُخري الجدُوبُ

    And afflictions that the days have hurled at me

    Darkening my horizon—all have struck their mark

  22. أنَا أشكُو إليكَ دهراً لحَا عُو

    دي وأعرَاه فَهْوَ يَبْسٌ سَليبُ

    I have lost my inheritance and all I earned

    Between Egypt and the sea, some parts wrecked, some pillaged

  23. وخُطوباً رَمى بها حادِثُ الدَّهْ

    رِ سَوادي وكلُّهُنَّ مُصيبُ

    I see my camel, once mighty, now too weak to bear his load

    And he sees any boon from other than you

  24. أذْهَبَتْ تَالِدي وطارِفِيَ الطَّا

    ري فَضَاعَ المورُوثُ والمكسوبُ

    As an added burden, a torment upon him

    What excuse does fate have if it delays

  25. فهْو شَطرانِ بين مصرٍ وبحرٍ

    ذَا غريقٌ فَيءٌ وذَا مَنهوبُ

    My hopes when your grace is all I seek?

    Is not every crop in Egypt also yours?

  26. وإبائِي أراهُ عن حَمله المَنْ

    نَ ضَعيفاً وهْو القَويُّ الرَّكوبُ

    Every servant nourished and prosperous?

    Generosity is your noble nature

  27. ويَرى كلّ منّةٍ لِسِوَى الصّا

    لِحِ غُلاًّ في حملِه تَعذيبُ

    So why should blessings you grant be deemed strange?

    It has reached me from afar, as fragrant winds blow spices

  28. ما اعتذارُ المُنى إذا مَطَلَتْنِي

    بِطِلابِي وفضلُك المَطلوبُ

    Wondrous that your gifts should flow

    While the recipient remains still

  29. أوَ ليست مِصراً وكلُّ بَنانٍ

    لكَ بحرٌ وكلُّ عبدٍ خَصيبُ

    A precedent set by the righteous king

    In which each creature receives his share

  30. والنّدى طبعُك الكريمُ فما أه

    نى نوالاً تُنيلُه وتُثيبُ

    My praises have brought me closer to him

    Though he is near to all who draw close

  31. جاءَنِي والبِعادُ دُوني كما جَا

    بَتْ فَيافي البلاد ريحٌ هَبُوبُ

    With bounty he has an open hand

    And ample chest, and welcomes widely

  32. وعجيبٌ أنّ المواهِبَ تَسرِي

    ويقيمُ المسترفِدُ الموهُوبُ

    In his days, the world smiled with joy

    And no distress could trouble it

  33. سُنّةٌ سنَّها نَدَى الملِك الصا

    لِحِ فيها لِكلِّ خَلقٍ نَصيبُ

  34. مَن ثَنائِي طَوَى إليه الفَيافِي

    وهْو من كلِّ ذِي اقترابٍ قريبُ

  35. وله بالنَّوالِ باعٌ طَويلٌ

    ويدٌ سبْطةٌ وصدرٌ رَحيبُ

  36. وبأيامه تبَسَّمَتِ الدّنْ

    يا سُروراً فلا اعترَاهَا قُطوبُ
