Ask the armored champions of war about me in every battle,
where the breast of even a man of valor grows tight for breath.
They will tell you that, in its narrowest straits,
I stand unshaken when fear rocks the towering, deep-rooted peak.
I plunge into it like a meteor hurled as a celestial missile, accompanied by
a keen blade, like lightning coursing through the night or a firebrand’s flare.
When with it I strike a rival whom I meet in single combat,
it puts him beyond any sickbed visitor who might attend him—or any healer.
