My companion in estrangement’s night is one who resembles me—
in gauntness, sleeplessness, pallor, and tears.
Wherever I see him, I encounter a face of his,
radiant, gazing expectantly toward the one on whom he has set his hopes,
like one clothing my body in the languor of his eyelids—wherever
he appeared to me, I beheld beauty entire.
