1. ولكنّنِي ألقَى الحوادثَ وادِعاً

    بقلبِ أريبٍ بأسُه يَتوقَّدُ

    Yet I meet misfortunes with a heart

    Devious, its malice ever fanned to flame,

  2. أبيٌّ على عدْلِ الزّمانِ وجَورِهِ

    غنيٍّ عن الأعوانِ إن قَلَّ مُسعِدُ

    Rebel against the justice and the wrong

    Of Time, needing no aid though helpers fail me.

  3. فما هُو في خَطبٍ وإن راعَ جازِعٌ

    مَروعٌ ولا في حادث مُتَبَلّدُ

    So fixed my purpose, though the timorous quail,

    I am nor startled nor bewildered.
