نعم هذه الأطلال قفر كما ترى

فما عذر أجفاني إذا لم تفض دما

Indeed these ruins are barren, as you see

So my eyes deserve no blame if they shed no tears

ولليوم أعددت الدموع وصنتها

وما يستجم الدمع إلا ليسجما

For today I had prepared tears and hoarded them

And tears flow only to assuage and soothe

وفي منزل الأحباب عذر لذي الهوى

فلا لوم إلا أن تجور وتظلما

In the abode of loved ones, the lover has an excuse
