إن سرَّ أعدائيَ أَنْ عَضَّني

دَهري بما أذْهَبَ من مالي

My enemies rejoice that time

Has swept away my fortune and my prime.

فهِمَّتي بالنَّجمِ معقودةٌ

ما حطَّها ما حَالَ من حَالي

But still my spirit's vision follows far

The glory of that bright, unsetting star.

كالنَّارِ إِن نكَّسَها قابِسٌ

لم يتنَكَّس نورُها العَالي

Though clouds may gather round that radiant light,

Its beams are never quenched, its splendor never blight.
