1. ألف القلى وأجاب داعية النوى

    فَبُليتُ منه بِهِجرَةٍ وفرَاقِ

    He bent his ear to the call of desire

    So I suffered his estrangement and separation

  2. والصّبُّ راحتُهُ البكاءُ ومُذْ نَأى

    إنْسانُ عَينِيَ أمْحلَتْ آمَاقي

    And weeping became my solace since he went away

    The apple of my eye, my hopes have been dashed

  3. لو كنتُ أطمعُ في بقاءِ عُهودِهِ

    سكنَتْ بَلابِلُ قَلبيَ الخَفّاقِ

    Had I hoped for the permanence of his pledges

    The palpitations of my heart would have been calmed
