O my promise of union, a promise without fulfillment

In which the hopeful finds no place for requital

I have become, in my love for you, like one who calls out his echo

With no fortune save that his call may be heard

Yet the fortune of your love has denied sustenance to my body

Vanishing my sleep and drawing forth my tears
