1. وجَدَّدَ وَجْدِي بعدما كان قد عفَا

    وراجَعَني حِلمي ووَازَرَني صَبْرِي

    My passion was revived after it had ceased

    My dream revisited me and my patience consoled me

  2. هتوفُ الضّحى مفجوعةٌ بأليفِها

    تُهَيِّجُ أشجانَ الفؤادِ وما تَدْرِي

    The morning breeze wails for its beloved

    Stirring the sorrows of my heart though unaware

  3. ولو أنّها إذْ أعْولَتْ فاضَ دمعُها

    لقلتُ هي الخنساءُ تَبكِي على صَخْرِ

    And had it wept profusely when it moaned

    I would have said it was Al-Khansa grieving over Sakhr

  4. ولكنّها لم تُذْرِ دمعاً وأدمُعي

    إذا قُرِنت بالقَطر زادت على القَطرِ

    But it shed no tears while mine overflowed

    For next to drops of rain mine poured even more
