لكَ أن أُطيعَك راضياً أو سَاخطَا

وأَصُونَ سِرَّكَ راجياً أو قَانِطَا

Whether I obey you willingly or reluctantly,

And keep your secret hoping or despairing,

وإذا تَسقَّطَنِي الوُشَاةُ حَديثَكُم

أَلْفَوا بِسرِّكُمُ ضنيناً سَاخِطَا

And if the slanderers spread your talk around me,

I meet their slander with your secret, resentful.

يلقَى اللوائمُ فيك سمعاً صَادِفاً

عنهم وجَأشاً للملامَةِ رابطَا

Reproaches find with you an ear that's receptive,

And me, averse to blame, steadfast, protective.

ويُثِيرُ ذكراكُم زفيراً صَاعِداً

مُستَنبِطاً بلظَاهُ دمعاً سَاقطَا

The mention of you stirs a rising, bitter sigh

As tears well up, cascade and multiply.

يا هاجراً وافَى الكرَى بخيالِهِ

مُستدرِكاً بالوصلِ هجراً فَارطَا

O you whose apparition fulfilled the dreamer,

Regretting the loss, hoping for reunion.

لو أَيقنَ الواشُونَ حَظّيَ منكُمُ

وصبَابتي بكُمُ لَسرّوا الغَابِطَا

If the critics but knew of my fortune through you,

And my devotion, they would envy the ecstatic.
