1. أَرى الموتَ يستقري النُّفوسَ ولا أَرى

    سِوى مانِعٍ ما في يَدَيْهِ بخيلِ

    I see death courting souls, yet I see naught

    But a miser clutching what he has so taut.

  2. فيا عَجَباً للباخلينَ وإنَّما

    قليلُهُمُ للإرثِ بعدَ قليلِ

    How strange are the misers! Their pittance they guard

    When shortly their heirs will reap their hoard.
