  1. طَرِبتَ وَردَ مَن تَهوى

    جِمالَ الحَيِّ فَاِبتَكَرا

    The one whom you love has become disturbed,

    By the beauty of the living, so we were innovative,

  2. فَظِلتُ مُكَفكِفاً دَمعا

    إِذا نَهنَهتُهُ اِبتَدَرا

    So I remained wiping tears,

    Whenever I wink at him, he looks away,

  3. وَبِتُّ لِذاكَ مُكتَئباً

    أُقاسي الهَمَّ وَالسَهَرا

    And I spend the night sad for that,

    Bearing worries and sleeplessness,

  4. لِبَينِ الحَيِّ إِذ هاجوا

    لَكَ الأَحزانَ وَالذِكَرا

    For the living who became excited,

    For you are sorrows and remembrance,

  5. فَإِن يَكُ حَبلُ مَن تَهوا

    هُ أَمسى مِنكَ مُنبَتِرا

    So if the rope of the one you love,

    Has become untied from you,

  6. لَيالِيَ لا أُبالي مَن

    لَحى في الحُبِّ أَو عَذرا

    Nights I do not care who,

    Was mistaken in love or excused,

  7. وَلَن أَنسى بِخَيفِ مِنىً

    تَسارُقَ زَينَبَ النَظَرا

    And I will not forget Zainab glancing at me,

    With the bats of her Rym’s eyelids,

  8. إِلَيَّ بِمُقلَتَي ريمٍ

    تَرى في طَرفِها حَورا

    She sees paradise in their edges,

    And you see moles on her cheek,

  9. وَثَغرٍ واضِحٍ رَتِلٍ

    تَرى في خَدِّهِ أَشَرا

    And I do not forget her words,

    To her neighbor, just wait,

  10. وَلا أَنسى مَقالَتَها

    لِتِربَيها أَلا اِنتَظِرا

  11. أَبا الخَطّابِ نَنظُرُ في

    مَ بَعدَ وِصالِهِ هَجرا

    And blaming both of you,

    For estrangement and hiding,

  12. وَلَوماهُ وَقَيتُكُما

    عَلى الهِجرانِ وَاِستَتِرا

    And saying: You have won her,

    Enough for you, spread the news,

  13. وَقولا قَد ظَفِرتَ بِها

    كَفاكَ وَخَبِّرا الخَبَرا

    And saying: Your secret one day,

    In the bosom of suspicion was disclosed,

  14. وَقولا إِنَّ سِرَّكَ يَو

    مَ بَطنِ الخَيفِ قَد شُهِرا

    So I said: she thought that I,

    Disobeyed those who forbid me,

  15. فَقُلتُ أَغَرَّها أَنّي

    لَها عاصَيتُ مَن زَجَرا

    And I made her in love,

    Hearing and sight from me,

  16. وَأَن أَنزَلتُها في الوُد

    دِ مِنّي السَمعَ وَالبَصَرا

    So where is the covenant and oath,

    Do not let people know about us,

  17. فَأَينَ العَهدُ وَالميثا

    قُ لا تُشعِر بِنا بَشَرا

    And saying gently:

    “Zainab make Omar last for me”,

  18. وَقولا في مُلاطَفَةٍ

    أَزَينَبُ نَوِّلي عَمرا

    And tell Al-Malikiyyah do not,

    Blame the heart if it becomes estranged.

  19. وَقُل لِلمالِكِيَّةِ لا

    تَلومي القَلبَ إِن هَجَرا
