ثُمَّ نَبَّهتُها فَمَدَّت كَعاباً

طَفلَةً ما تُبينُ رَجعَ الكَلامِ

Then I awakened her, and she extended

A mouthful that showed no comprehension of words.

ساعَةً ثُمَّ إِنَّها لِيَ قالَت

وَيلَتا قَد عَجِلتَ يا اِبنَ الكِرامِ

For a while she was silent, then she said to me,

"Woe to me! How soon you have awakened, O son of noble ones!"
