نامَ صَحبي وَلَم أَنَم
مِن خَيالٍ بِنا أَلَم
I could not sleep, my friend's name was on my mind
A fantasy of pain that haunted me
طافَ بِالرَكبِ موهِناً
بَينَ خاخٍ إِلى إِضَم
He circled the group submissively
Between rugged hills and twisted trees
ثُمَّ نَبَّهتُ صاحِباً
طَيِّبَ الخيمِ وَالشِيَم
Then I woke my friend, kind and true
I said “Bakr, please cure my misery
أَريَحِيّاً مُساعِداً
غَيرَ نِكسٍ وَلا بَرِم
On this dark night of apprehension
Go to Hind and say I burn for thee”
قُلتُ يا بَكرُ شَفَّني
لاعِجُ الحُبِّ وَالأَلَم
إِئتِ هِنداً فَقُل لَها
لَيلَةَ الخَيفِ ذي سَلَم
