مَبيتُنا جانِبُ البَطحاءِ مِن شَرَفٍ
لِحافُنا دونَ وَقعِ القَطرِ جِلبابُ
Our night's stay by the desert plain was one of nobility
Our blanket below the patter of raindrops a cloak
مُبَطَّنٌ بِكِساءِ القَزِّ لَيسَ لَنا
إِلّا الوَليدَةَ وَالنَعلَينِ أَصحابُ
Lined with silk, we own nothing
Except for the mare and the two sandals, companions
ثُمَّ المَطِيَّةُ بِالبَطحاءِ يَضرِبُها
واهي العُرى مِن نَجاءِ الدَلوِ سَكّابُ
Then the tent rope in the plain, striking it
Feeble from the full bucket's pouring, drawer of water
