1. أَلاّ بَكَيتَ عَلى الكِرا

    مِ بَني الكِرامِ أولي المَمادِح

    Alas! Did you weep for the generous ones

    Among the generous, O you who praise the noble!

  2. كَبُكا الحَمامِ عَلى فُرو

    عِ الأَيكِ في الغُصُنِ الصَوادِح

    Like pigeons weeping for the nests

    On the branches of the lofty trees

  3. يَبكينَ حَزنى مُستَكي

    ناتٍ يَرُحنَ مَع الرَوائِح

    Crying mournfully, wailing,

    Moaning with the winds

  4. أَمثالُهُنَّ الباكِيا

    تُ المُعوِلاتِ مِنَ النَوائِح

    Like the wailing bereaved women

    Among the mourners in lament

  5. مَن يَبكِهِم يَبكِ عَلى

    حُزنٍ وَيَصدُقُ كُلُّ مادِح

    Whoever weeps for them, weeps for sorrow

    And believes all who praise

  6. كَم بَينَ بَدرٍ وَالعَقَن

    قَلِ مِن مَرازبَةٍ جَحاجِح

    How few are the nights between Badr

    And Uhud of close combat!

  7. فَمُدافِعِ البَرقَينِ فَال

    حَنّانِ مِن طَرفِ الأَواشِح

    So the defender with lightning spears

    The compassionate in the heat of battle

  8. شُمطٍ وَشُبّانٍ بَهال

    يلٍ مَغاويرٍ وَحاوِح

    Shumut and Shubban the fearless

    The resolute warriors and brave

  9. أَوَ لا تَرَونَ كَما أَرى

    وَقَد اِستَبانَ لِكُلِّ لامِح

    Do you not see as I see

    And it is clear to every keen-sighted one

  10. أَن قَد تَغَيَرَّ بَطنُ مَكَ

    ةَ فَهيَ موحِشَةُ الأَباطِح

    That the heart of Mecca has changed

    And it has become desolate and empty

  11. مِن كُلِّ بِطريقٍ لِبِط

    ريقٍ نَقِيِّ الوَجهِ واضِح

    Of every generous man, and every

    Pure-faced, straightforward man

  12. دُعموصِ أَبوابِ المُلوكِ

    وَجائِبٍ لِلخَرقِ فاتِح

    And the doors of kings are shut

    Against the torn garment and petitioner

  13. وَمِنَ السَراطِمَةِ الجَلا

    حِمَةِ المَلاوِثَةِ المَناجِح

    And from the vulgar riffraff

    The brazen impudent and scheming

  14. القائِلينَ الآمِرينَ ال

    فاعِلينَ لِكُلِّ صالِح

    Who command and execute

    Every vile deed

  15. المُطعِمينَ الشَحمَ فَو

    قَ الخُبزِ شَحماً كَالأَنافِح

    Who stuff the bread's top with fat

    Fat likeprobes

  16. نُقُلِ الجِفانِ مَعَ الجِفا

    نِ إِلى جِفانٍ كَالمَناضِح

    Moving carrion with carrion

    To further carrion like ladles

  17. لَيسَت بِأَصفارٍ لِمَن

    يَقفو وَلا رُحٍّ رَحارِح

    They are not empty bags to whoever tracks

    Nor easy game for the hunter

  18. وُهُبِ المِئينَ مِنَ المِئي

    نِ إِلى المِئينِ مِنَ اللَواقِح

    Give hundreds to the hundreds

    To further hundreds of marriages

  19. لِلضَيفِ ثُمَّ الضَيفِ بَع

    دَ الضَيفِ وَالبُسُطِ السَلاطِح

    For the guest, then the guest

    After the guest with food and bowls spread

  20. سَوقَ المُؤَبِّلِ لِلمُؤَب

    بِلِ صادِراتٍ عَن بَلادِح

    For their trade sent abroad

    From a barren land

  21. لِكِرامِهِم فَوقَ الكِرا

    مِ مَزِيَّةٌ وَزنَ الرَواجِح

    They have advantage over the generous

    Like weights tipping the scales

  22. كَتَثاقُلِ الأَرطالِ بِال

    قِسطاسِ في الأَيدي المَوانِح

    A faction betrayed them

    As they protected damaged honor

  23. خَذَلتَهُمُ فِئَةٌ وَهُم

    يَحمونَ عَوراتِ الفَضائِح

    Striking reform with sharpened swords

    Indeed their voices carried me

  24. الضارِبينَ التَقدُمِي

    يَّةَ بِالمُهَنَّدَةِ الصَفائِح

    From among the imploring and screaming

    For God's sake, the Banu Ali's pearls

  25. وَلَقَد عَناني صَوتُهُم

    مِن بَينِ مُستَسقٍ وَصائِح

    Be they chaste or married

    Will change an arid thicket

  26. لِلَهِ دُرُّ بَني عَلِيٍّ

    أَيِّمٍ مِنهُم وَناكِح

    That chirps at every yelping

    With deceptive actions, ambitions

  27. إِن لَم يُغيروا غارَةً

    شَعواءَ تُجحِرُ كُلَّ نابِح

    Yearnings with longings

    Back to a bare standoff

  28. بِالمُقرِباتِ المُبعِدا

    تِ الطامِحاتِ مَعَ الطَوامِح

    To a lion's snapping with gnashing

    And horn will meet horn

  29. مُرداً عَلى جُردٍ إِلى

    أُسدٍ مُكالِبَةٍ كَوالِح

    The stride of wrestler meeting wrestler

    With about a thousand then a thousand

  30. وَيُلاقِ قِرنٌ قِرنَهُ

    مَشيَ المُصافِحِ لِلمُصافِح

    Between the mighty and the spears

  31. بِزُهاءِ أَلفٍ ثُمَّ أَل

    فٍ بَينَ ذي بَدَنٍ وَرامِح
