عَذيري مِن أَبي بِشرٍ
فَقَد عيلَ بِهِ صَبري
Someone save me from Abu Bishr—
for my patience is entangled with him.
مَتى يَأُخُذُ مِن مالي
وَيُعطيني عَلى شِعري
Whenever he takes from my wealth
and pays me for my poetry,
فَما يَنفَكُّ لَو فَك
كَرَ في الحالَينِ مِن خُسرِ
he never lets up: if he lets go,
he comes back—either way, to my loss.
فَلا ذِمَّتَهُ يُبري
فَلا يَحصِدُ بِالشُكرِ
Thus he neither clears his debt
nor reaps a harvest of thanks.
