1. دَعِ الحِرصَ فَالحُرُّ مَن لا يَبي

    تُ في رِبقَةِ الأَمَلِ الكاذِبِ

    Renounce covetous striving: the free person is one who does not spend

    the night in the tether of false hope.

  2. فَإِنَّ اِجتِماعَ الغِنى وَالنُهى

    مَرامٌ يَشُقُّ عَلى الطالِبِ

    For wealth and wisdom to come together

    is a goal that is hard upon the seeker.

  3. لِأَنَّ الكِفايَةَ في جانِبٍ

    مِنَ الناسِ وَالحَظ في جانِبِ

    For competence lies on one side

    among people, while fortune lies on another.
