1. أَلا يا أَبا الفَرَجِ الأَريَحِيِّ

    وَيا مَن بِجودِ يَدَيهِ المَثَل

    O Abu Al-Faraj Al-Isfahani

    O you whose generosity is proverbial

  2. وَيا مَن فُكاهَتُهُ لِلجَليسِ

    أُنسٌ وَفاكِهَةٌ لا تُمَلّ

    O you whose wit delights companions

    A joy and fruit that never palls

  3. بَعَثتَ بِهِ كَخُدودِ الحِسانِ

    سَفَرنَ فَنَقَّبَهُنَّ الخَجَل

    You sent it like maidens' cheeks

    Whose blushes their veils reveal

  4. نَقِيّاً كَعِرضِكَ قَد أُذكِيَت

    كَنارِ ذَكائِكَ فيهِ شُعَل

    Pure as your reputation, kindled

    Like the flames of your intellect

  5. تَراءَت لَنا تَحتَ أَوراقِهِ

    وُجوهُ العَذارى وَراءَ الكِلَل

    Through its pages we saw

    The faces of girls behind their veils

  6. فَغِرتُ عَلى حُسنِهِ أَن يُنالَ

    مِنهُ بِغَيرِ لِحاظِ المُقَل

    I envied that it might be won

    Without a lustful glance

  7. وَشَبَّهتُهُ كَفَّ مُهديهِ لي

    فَما يَصلُحانِ لِغَيرِ القُبَل

    And likened it to its sender's palm

    Which only kisses suit
