1. فَلا يُضجِرَنكَ اِزدِحامُ الوُفودِ

    عَلَيكَ وَكَثرَةُ ما تَبذُلُ

    Let not the crowds that flock to you annoy,

    Nor what you generously expend destroy.

  2. فَإِنَّكَ في زَمَنٍ لَيسَ فيهِ

    جَوادٌ سِواكَ وَلا مُفضِلُ

    For in these times so few like you remain

    To give, or with an open hand sustain.

  3. وَقَد قَلَّ في أَهلِهِ المُنعِمونَ

    وَقَد كَثُرَ البائِسُ المُرمِلُ

    Munificent men are few and far between,

    While indigent and needy throngs are seen.

  4. وَما فيهِ غَيرُكَ مَن يُستَماحُ

    وَما فيهِ إِلّاكَ مَن يُسأَلُ

    None but yourself is looked to for relief,

    On none but you is cast the shame of grief.
