لَولا الخَليفَةُ موسى بَعدَ والِدِهِ

ما كانَ لِلنّاسِ مِن مَهدِيِّهِم خَلَفُ

Were it not for the Caliph Musa after his father

Were it not for the Caliph Musa succeeding his father,

The people would not have had a successor as their guide

The people would have found no successor for their Mahdi,

أَلا تَرى أُمَّةَ الأُمِّيِّ وارِدَةً

كَأَنَّها مِن نَواحي البَحرِ تَغتَرِفُ

Do you not see the nation of the Unlettered coming

Do you not see the nation of the Unlettered Prophet arriving to drink,

As though they draw from the sides of the sea

As though they were scooping draughts from the expanse of the sea,

مِن راحَتَي مَلِكٍ قَد عَمَّ نائِلُهُ

كَأَنَّ نائِلَهُ مِن جودِهِ سَرِفُ

From the ease of a king whose gifts are all-encompassing

From the palms of a king whose bounty encompasses all,

As though his gifts from his generosity are lavish

As if his bestowal, through his sheer generosity, were mere extravagance.
