أَلا قُل لِمَروانٍ أَتَتكَ رِسالَةٌ

لَها نَبَأٌ لا يَنثَني عَن لِقائِكا

Oh, say to Marwan: A message has come to you,

Bearing news that will not turn away from meeting you.

حَباني أَميرُ المُؤمِنينَ بِنَفحَةٍ

مُشَهَّرَةٍ قَد طَأطَأَت مِن حِبائِكا

The Commander of the Faithful has bestowed upon me a gift,

A renowned bounty that has humbled your own giving.

ثَمانينَ أَلفاً حُزتُ مِن صُلبِ مالِهِ

وَلَم يَكُ قِسماً مِن أُلي وَأولائِكا

Eighty thousand I secured from the core of his wealth,

And it was not a share taken from these or those of yours.
