لِما اِستَظَلَّ بِتاجِ المُلكِ وَاِجتَمَعَت

لَهُ الأُمورُ فَمُنقادٌ وَمَقسورُ

When he took shade beneath the crown of kingship and all affairs converged for him, both the willing and the coerced,

His fated death descended upon him by decree; just so do destinies deal with mankind.

حَطَّت عَلَيهِ بِمِقدارٍ مَنِيَّتُهُ

كَذاكَ تَصنَعُ بِالناسِ المَقاديرُ

And within his hands was a sky ceaseless in bounty, the downpour of its clouds raining gold dinars,

For every glory, should you boast, is cast aside, and every generosity, should you give, is totally eclipsed.

وَفي يَدَيهِ سَماءٌ غَيرُ مُقلِعَةٍ

بِالجودِ صَوبُ عَزاليها الدَنانيرُ

وَكُلُّ فَخرٍ إِذا فاخَرتَ مُطَّرَحٌ

وَكُلُّ جودٍ إِذا ما جُدتَ مَغمورُ
