A youth bereft of wealth was he,
A youth devoid of wealth,
Yet peerless in nobility,
Yet of chivalry, he is not devoid;
And whensoe’er he pledged his word,
And if he pledges a promise to you,
His deeds with speech did well accord.
The deed accompanies the spoken word.
God bless thee, youth! but seldom blows
To God belongs the excellence of such a youth!
Thy like, of generous virtue's shows.
For the noble traits embodied within you;
He gave thee, ere thou didst request,
He gave to you before you even asked,
Enough to spare the asking test.
Thus sparing you the indignity of the request.
