1. وَلَقَد ذَكَرتُكِ وَالعَجاجُ كَأَنَّهُ

    ظِلَّ الغَنِيِّ وَسوءُ عَيشِ المُعسِرِ

    I remembered you while the sandgrouses were like

    The shade of the wealthy and the misery of the destitute

  2. وَالشوسُ بَينَ مُجَدَّلٍ في جَندَلٍ

    مِنّا وَبَينَ مُعَفَّرٍ في مِغفَرِ

    And Al-Shawsh was between Mujaddal in his coat of mail

    And us and Mu’affar in his coat of mail

  3. فَظَنَنتُ أَنّي في صَباحٍ مُشرِقٍ

    بِضِياءِ وَجهِكِ أَو مَساءٍ مُقمِرِ

    So I imagined I was in a bright morning

    With the light of your face or a moonlit evening

  4. وَتَعَطَّرَت أَرضُ الكِفاحِ كَأَنَّما

    فُتِقَت لَنا ريحُ الجِلادِ بِعَنبَرِ

    And the ground of struggle was fragrant as though

    The scent of musk was opened for us with ambergris
