تَناسَيتَ وَعدي وَأَهمَلتَهُ
وَغَرَّكَ في ذاكَ مِنّي السُكوتُ
You forgot your promise and neglected it
And my silence deceived you in that
إِلى أَن عَلاهُ غُبارُ المَطالِ
وَخَيَّمَ مِن فَوقِهِ العَنكَبوتُ
Until the dust of hopes covered it
And cobwebs hovered over it
فَناسَيتُ نَفسي وَعَلَّلتُها
بِأَن سَوفَ أَذكُرُه إِذ حَييتُ
So I forgot myself and excused it
Saying I will remember it if I live
فَلَمّا تَجاوَزَ حَدَّ المَطالِ
نَسيتُ بِأَنّي لَهُ قَد نَسيتُ
But when it exceeded the limit of hopes
I forgot that I had forgotten it
