1. خُلِقتُ ولكن كي أموت بها حُبّا

    لِذاكَ تَرَاني مُستَهاماً بِهَا صَبّا

    I was created just to die of love for her

    That is why you see me infatuated with her passionately

  2. وإني مَشُوقٌ كُلّما شابَ رأسهُ

    بحُبِّ التي يشتاقُهَا كُلّما شَبّا

    And I yearn more and more as my hair turns grey

    Out of love for the one whose longing makes me age

  3. إِذا مَلأت دَهري الخُطوبُ فإنّهَا

    لَتَلقى بِصَدري الرّحبِ مُستَودَعاً رَحبَا

    When my life fills up with troubles, they will surely

    Find in my vast chest a vast receptacle

  4. يُصَاحِبُني صَبرٌ أُكَتِّمُهُ إِذا

    لَدى نُوَبِ الأيّامِ نادَيتُهُ لَبّى

    Patience accompanies me, I conceal it when

    In times of adversity I call upon it and it responds

  5. فما أنا ممّن إِن ترَامَت بِهِ النّوَى

    تَرَوّعهُ الدّنيَا ولَو مُلئَت رُعبَا

    I'm not one whom when intentions turn against

    The world can terrify, even if filled with horror

  6. ولكنّ لي في سَفحِ صِنّينَ مَوطِناً

    إِذا مَا ذكَرتُ الأهلَ فِيهِ فَإنّني

    But I have as my refuge the slopes of China

    When I remember my family there, I weep profusely

  7. لَدى ذِكرِهم أستمطِرُ الدمعَ منصَبّا

    أُعلَلّلُ نفسي إن سئِمتُ بِعَودَةٍ

    When I complain of homesickness, I make excuses

    But oh times, curse them, curse them

  8. وَلكِنّها الأيّام تَبّاً لها تَبّا

    فَلِلّهِ هاتِيكَ الرّبى وربوعها

    So by God, take away these meadows and meadowettes

    For I have wasted my heart among their sands

  9. فإنيَ قَد ضَيّعتُ في تربها القَلبَا

    وَيا حَبّذا ذاكَ النّسِيمُ فإنّني

    And oh, delightful is the breeze, for it

    Revives me when that breeze blows

  10. لَيُنعِشُني ذاكَ النّسِيمُ إِذا هَبّا

    تَنادَوا بدستُورٍ وقالوا لَنَا انظُرُوا

    They called for a constitution and told us: "Look

    We have driven poverty and drought away from you"

  11. فإنّا طَرَدنا الفَقرَ عَنكُمُ والجدبا

    ولاحَ لَنَا بَرقٌ على البعدِ ضاحِكٌ

    But a mocking flash of lightning appeared to us in the distance

    So we thought our dry land had become moist

  12. فَخِلنَا بأن قَد صَارَ يابِسُنَا رَطَبَا

    وما كان إِلاّ خُلّباً أضحَكَ الفَضَا

    It was nothing but a deceiving mirage that made

    The sky laugh, leaving people mourning fate's mourning

  13. وخَلّفَ قَوماً نادبينَ المُنَى نَدبَا

    وَرَاحَ المُنادى فِيهٍِ يوماً كَأنّهُ

    And the caller amongst them cried one day as if

    Screaming down ravines until he passed away

  14. صِيَاحٌ بِقِيعانٍ إِلى أن قضى نحبَأ

    عَلى مَهَلٍ يا دولَةَ التُّركِ واسمعي

    Slow down, Turkish state, and listen

    For in truth I have not committed a sin

  15. فإني بقولِ الحقّ لم أرتكِب ذَنبَا

    مشى العِلمً في شرق البلادِ وَغَربِهَا

    Knowledge has spread in the east and west of the lands

    But in Turkey it has lost its way

  16. ولكن بتركِيا لقد ضَيّعَ الدّربَا

    فما تَنفَعُ الأحزَابُ وهيَ كَثيرَةٌ

    The many parties do not benefit

    If the parties do not benefit the people

  17. إِذا كانت الأحزابُ لا تَنفَعُ الشّعبَا

    يَقُولونَ إِنّ التُّركَ أُسدٌ أشَاوِسٌ

    They say the Turks are ferocious lions

    Where were the Turks in times of strife?

  18. كماةُ التركِ كانوا لدى الوَغَى

    ولم يدفعوا البلغارَ عنهُم ولا السّربَا

    They did not drive away the Bulgarians or Serbians from them

    It is nothing but ignorance spreading its carpet over them

  19. فما هُوَ إِلاّ الجهلُ مدّ بساطهُ

    عليهم وأرخى من غَياهِبِهَِ حُجبَا

    And letting down its barriers of darkness upon them

    I pray to God we do not return to a state

  20. ألا لا أرانا اللهُ عَوداً لِدَولَةٍ

    نكونُ لها أسرَى وأموالُنَا نُهبى

    Where we are its prisoners and it loots our money

    Were we not the first to enjoy life in its shade

  21. ألَسنَا الأولى عَافوا الحَيَاةَ بِظِلّهَا

    وجابوا بلادَ الله واستَوطَنوا الغَربَا

    And traveled God's lands settling in the west?

    How many wanderers roamed every part of earth

  22. فَكَم من شريدٍ طافَ في كلّ بقعةٍ

    من الأرضِ حتى كاد يكتشف القطبَا

    Until they almost discovered the poles?

    Many an ignorant man consumed by bigotry

  23. وَرُبّ جَهُولٍ هاجَ فيهِ تَعَصّبٌ

    فَأعماهُ واغتَال البصيرَةَ واللُّبَا

    Which blinded him and killed insight and perception

    Calling for holy war in ignorance, not knowing

  24. يُنادي جهاد الدين جَهلاً وما درَى

    مُنَاداتهُ للدين مذمومة العُقبى

    His call for religion is condemnable in its consequence

    So the friend of recklessness may one day know, if he become guided

  25. لِيَعلَم أليفُ الطيشِ يوماً إذا اهتدى

    بأنّ أُسودَ الغابِ لا تَرهَبُ الضّبَا

    That the wolves of the forest are not scared of hyenas

    If one man chokes on his own saliva

  26. إذا كانَ إنسانٌ يَغَصّ بِريقِهِ

    فَكيفَ بِموجِ البَحرِ يشرَبُه غَبّا

    How can he drink an ocean wave greedily?

    Greetings to Paris, and the garden wherein

  27. سَلامٌ عَلى باريس والرّوضَةِ الّتي

    ينابِيعُها أضحَت لَنَا مَورِداً عَذبَا

    Its springs have become for us a freshwater source

    Greetings to its men of knowledge, for they

  28. سلامٌ لأهلِ العِلمِ فيها فإنّهُم

    لَدى كُرَبِ الأيّامِ كم فَرّجوا كربا

    In times of adversity alleviated many worries

    Greetings to Napoleon, who lies in his grave

  29. سَلامٌ لِنابوليونَ وَهوَ بِقَبرِهِ

    فتى الحربِ مَن قد رام يفتَتح الشُّهبا

    The young warrior who sought to conquer comets

    Greetings to the lord of wars, for until

  30. سَلامٌ عَلى رَبّ الحُروبِ فَإنّهُ

    إِلى حَدّ هذا اليَومِ يدعى لها رَبّا

    This day he is still called their lord

    Greetings to the free in any stance

  31. سَلامٌ عَلى الأحرَار في كلّ موقفٍ

    بِهِ أُنشِدُ الأشعَارَ مُمتَدِحاً عُربا

    In which I compose poems praising Arabs

    When the ink of poetry dries out I water it

  32. إذا ما ذوَى دوحُ القريضِ سَقَيتُهُ

    لُعَابَ يَرَاعٍ تاهَ في مدحِهم عُجبَا

    With the saliva of someone who got lost praising them vainly
