أَيا قَبرَ لَيلى لَو شَهِدناكَ أَعوَلَت

عَلَيكَ نِساءٌ مِن فَصيحٍ وَمِن عَجَم

O grave of Layla, had we witnessed you, women would have wailed over you,

Eloquent and foreigners alike,

وَيا قَبرَ لَيلى أَكرِمَنَّ مَحَلَّها

يَكُن لَكَ ما عِشنا عَلَينا بِها نِعَم

O grave of Layla, honor her resting place,

Repay her for the blessings we enjoyed thanks to her,

وَيا قَبرَ لَيلى إِنَّ لَيلى غَريبَةٌ

بِأَرضِكَ لا خالٌ لَدَيها وَلا اِبنُ عَم

O grave of Layla, Layla is a stranger in your land,

No uncle or cousin beside her,

وَيا قَبرَ لَيلى ما تَضَمَّنتَ قَبلَها

شَبيهاً لِلَيلى ذا عَفافٍ وَذا كَرَم

O grave of Layla, none as chaste and noble as Layla

Have you enveloped before her,

وَيا قَبرَ لَيلى غابَتِ اليَومَ أُمُّها

وَخالَتُها وَالحافِظونَ لَها الذِمَم

O grave of Layla, today her mother and aunt are gone

And those who protected her are gone,
