I wish that I could borrow the wings of a bird and fly away

For there is no joy without you, no delight where you are not

A man who lives in two places is but half himself

With the other half far away, though he bears it patiently

I know my body is a captive in one land

While my heart is captive in another, not here at all

Oh you raven of separation, tell me of Lubna

For you know it well, being so wise

If you bring me no news of the place you've spied

May your wings be broken and no more will you fly

You circle above the dear one's abode while his lover

Spins about him from afar, though he is not near
