مِن لِمى الثَغر البَسام

For a smile gives me life

Against the sorrows of time

مُنيتي يا ذا العجب

لحمى وَصلي عج بي

My wish, oh you who astonish

Is to join my passion with yours

قال هَل تَرجو قُربي

وَعَلى خَدّي نَمام

Did you say “Do you hope for my nearness

While blame is on my cheek?”

فاتِني باهي اللطف

أَغيدٌ زاهي العطف

Beguile me, beautiful is your charm

Radiant, beautiful your affection

صدغهُ واو العَطف

قَد نَفى عَنّي الأَوهام

His cheek and the bend of tenderness

Has removed my doubts

شِم سَنا شَمسِ الراحِ

تَنجلي في المصباحِ

Inhale the light of comfort

Shining in the lamp

وَحَمام الأفراحِ

قَد شَدا يَتلو الأَنغام

And the pigeons of joy

Have begun singing melodies

أَوضحت ذات الخدرِ

في الهَوى العُذري عذري

The essence of my cheek has appeared

In innocent, chaste love

وَلو اِستبقت هَجري

ساعة كانت لي عام

And if my separation were prolonged

It would be a year to me

جَعلت رَشفي قَوتي

راح ثَغرٍ ياقوتي

You have made my drink my strength

The respite of a ruby mouth

وَبلحظٍ هاروتي

سَحرت لبّي اِستخدام

And with a lightning-like glance

You have bewitched my heart to serve

وَعَلى غُصن القَدِّ

لاحَ رُمّان النهدِ

And on the branch of my being

Appeared the pomegranate of your breast

كَيفَ لا يَسمو وَجدي

وَبِها قَلبي قَد هام

How could my passion not rise high

When my heart has fallen for them
