انحل الجسم يا هذيم الغرام

وتعدت حدودها الآلام

The body wastes away, O you who pine for love,

And sorrows have exceeded their limits.

لوعة اعنت الفؤاد ونار

في حواشيه جمرها ضرام

Anguish has worn out my heart, and fire

Burns in its margins, its embers violent.

لم تزل تزعج الضمير شؤن

لم يطق بعد لسعها الاكتتام

It continues to disturb the conscience, a matter

That has not yet endured its burning pain.

والمعاني التي تلوح لفكري

لو تبدت حارت لها اللوام

And the meanings that occur to my mind -

If they appeared, blame would befall them.

وحبيبي ما زال يجعل هجري

مذهبا والهوى له احكام

And my beloved still makes my estrangement

A course, while passion has its judgments.

يا حداة الركبان والليل داج

والبراري يغشى رباها الظلام

O sharpness of the mounts and the night is dark,

And the wilds are covered by darkness.

اسمعوني ذكر الحبيب فاني

بحبيبي وذكره مستهام

Listen to me mention the beloved, for I

Am obsessed with my beloved and his mention.

واعيدوا وكرروا الذكر علي

من سقامي يهون لي الاضطرام

And repeat and reiterate the mention to me,

For with my sickness, anxiety is eased for me.

واذا ما جئتم ديار حبيبي

فليبلّغ مني اليه السلام

And if you come to the abode of my beloved,

Convey my greetings and peace to him.
