Who for a youth gained no profit
With flowing tears his conduct
Lovesick, his longing stung him
Passion for the gentle folk did in him
My heart, pledged, has borne him troubles
Ceaselessly does it chain and shackle him
A gazelle whose necklace was torn
Tempting hearts, her glances ravage them
My father, gracefully created was he
A moon, in its phases it rises
His rosy cheek, fruitful its bounty
High, beyond doubt, over its like it ascends
I shielded whom censured he an ear
Until I could dispute with him
Wine, a cup with a pleasing lip
Can its peer be found, I wonder
Other than what I hoped for from him
And the trust of glory I spent on him
When my poem is read before him
Do its attributes of praise charm him?
My soul, how much love we gave him
When the rain of his passion sought us
He has gained every beauty
When his superior merits shone
He is rain of righteousness if we stray
His factors shine victorious
Does not rise or find bliss here, or purpose
Made triumphant by his attempts
