عِذار سعد الدين لَمّا بَدا

كَهالة البَدر بِأَوج الكَمال

When Saad al-Din's excuse appeared

Like the full moon at its peak of perfection

لاحَ لَنا سَطراً بطرس البها

كآية النور بَديع المِثال

A line shone for us like the star Aldebaran

An example of beautiful light

فَكانَ حرزاً وَوقاءً مِن ال

عين وَلَو جاءت بسحر حَلال

Thus it became a protection and shield from

The evil eye, even if it came with permitted sorcery

حارَت بِهِ الحور جَمالاً فَما

ألطف ما قالتَ ذَوات الدَلال

The maidens were confused by his beauty, so

The most gentle thing they said, those with coyness

بِقَلَم القُدرة أَرّخَت لا

بِالمسك خطَّ السَعدُ حرزَ الجَمال

With the pen of destiny it recorded, not

With musk, Saad inscribed the protection of beauty
