يا لابِساً ثَوب المَذمَّة لَقطَةً
دَعهُ لِغَيرك إِن تَجدهُ قَبيحا
Oh you who wears the garment of blame as a patch,
Leave it for another if you find it ugly,
وَاِستَخف شحّ النَفس إِن تَك في غِنى
فَالمَرءُ أَقبَح ما يَكون شَحيحا
And disdain the meanness of soul if you are wealthy,
For the meanest thing a man can be is miserly,
وَإِذا اِتَّهَمت نَصيحَتي فَاِلبسه عَن
رَأي القرين فَقَد رَآه مَليحا
And if you suspect my advice then put it on
By your companion's view for he saw it comely.
