كُلّ حَيّ سِوى المهيمن فاني

فَاِتَّقوا اللَه يا ذَوي العرفانِ

All the living besides the Omnipotent shall perish

So fear Allah, O people of insight

أبحر الدَمع لا تُعادل نَفعاً

قَطرة مِن سَحائب الغُفرانِ

An ocean of tears is not worth

A drop from the clouds of forgiveness

وَالحَليم الَّذي يَرى المَوت أَحلى

مِن حَياة مَرَّت بِدار هَوانِ

And the forbearing one who sees death sweeter

Than a life that passed in the abode of humiliation

إِنَّما الصَبر في الشَدائد درع

لَم تُمزّقهُ أَسهُم الحدثانِ

Verily, patience in adversities is a shield

Unbroken by the arrows of events

وَأَخو الصَبر وَالهلوع إِذا ما

نَفَذَت أَسهُم القَضا سِيّانِ

And the brother of patience and anxiety, if

The arrows of destiny penetrated, are equal

إِنَّ جَهل الآجال في الناس خَير

مُستَفاد مِن واهب الإِحسانِ

Verily, people's ignorance of their terms is good

Gained from the Giver of Favors

لَو دَرى المَرء حَظَّهُ مِن حَياة

لَقَضاها بِالهَمِّ وَالأَحزانِ

If man knew his share of life

He would spend it in worries and sorrows
