With a tender smile he stole away reason,
His luminous brow at dawn when day did break.
He came to rival me with his dark lashes,
And so increased my bewilderment and pride.
O you who fled, why when he saw my passion,
Did you send this phantom in quest of ruin?
Your disdain suffices my body in your absence,
It is not the way of lovers to abandon.
He who created passion, He is the one
Who humbled me to your glory as was fated.
Forgive his short unkindness, for in love's nature
Lies harm, so do not let what's past dismay you.
