I say to the Sea of Rome when it raged, foaming,

In the coast of the Sea of Arabs, the sun of virtues,

Your saltiness, what is it like to the intense, bitter salt

Compared to the sweet Euphrates in the waterholes,

And what are you and the ocean and others

    Besides this sea but brooks,

The sciences of Abi Amr and the gifts of the Creator

And nothing above them in glory, excellence over excellence,

And there are no meadows that give more pleasure

With a more fragrant aroma than the scent of those attributes.
