قيل لي ما لعصبةٍ

أغضَبوا اللَه وَالرُسُل

They said what of a people

Who angered God and the messengers

أبدعوا البَغي وَالمَعا

صيَ وَالجُبنَ وَالبُخُل

Excelled at rebellion, deceit

Cowardice, greed

ما بِهم غَير مدَّعٍ

وَخَسيس وَمن سَفل

None but pretenders

The mean and lowly

جال فِكري بِهَجوهم

وَدَعاني فَلَم أَجل

My thoughts raged at their insult

And called me, but I did not hasten

قُلت دَعني فَإِنَّنا

كُلّنا ذَلك الرَجل

I said leave me be for we

Are all that man
