1. مَن لِصَبّ لَم يَنَل أَرَبا

    مُستهلّ الدَمع هامرُه

    He whose love did not reach the one he desired

    With tears flowing down his cheeks

  2. ذو غَرامٍ سامَهُ شَجَنا

    وَهَوى الآرام قاهرُه

    Passionately in love, anguished by yearning

    Longing for tranquility, but it overpowers him

  3. وَاللواحي حمّلته عَنا

    لَم يَزَل دَوماً يساهرُه

    Hardships have burdened him with suffering

    He remains sleepless through the nights

  4. وَيح قَلبي ظَلّ مُرتهنا

    وَالظبا تيها تغادرُه

    Alas, my heart remains captive

    While the gazelle freely roams away from it

  5. وَغَزال هزّ قَدّ قَنا

    فتنَ الأَلباب ناظرُه

    A slender gazelle who has torn my soul

    Charming all hearts who gaze upon it

  6. بِأَبي مِنهُ بَديع سَنا

    قَمر تَزهو مَظاهرُه

    With smooth, radiant cheeks

    Free from any blemish near it

  7. خَدّهُ الوَردي طابَ جَنى

    جَلّ عَن رَيب يجاورُه

    I have refrained from whomsoever lacks modesty

    Until I can be wary of him

  8. صُنت عَمَّن لامني أذنا

    رَيثَما أَنّي أحاذرُه

    And lips like a brimming cup

    Does he perhaps exchange glances with it?

  9. وَمدام الثَغر كَأس هَنا

    أَتُرى نِدّاً يناظرُه

    Beyond what I hope for from him

    The trustworthy protector of glory

  10. غَير ما أَملت فيه مُنى

    وَأَمين المَجد ناشرُه

    When I recite poetry to him

    I list his outstanding merits

  11. مَن إِذا أَتلو لَدَيهِ ثَنا

    رَتّلت مَدحي مآثرُه

    How much love we have bestowed

    The first fruits of which his benevolence yielded

  12. أَريحيّ كَم حبا مننا

    من ندىً جادَت بواكرُه

    Every beautiful meaning he attained

    When his triumphs had faded

  13. كُلّ مَعنى حازَهُ حسنا

    عِندَما باهَت مفاخرُه

    He is a rain of righteousness if we go astray

    His firm resolve manifesting mightily

  14. فَهوَ غَيث البرِّ إِن هَتَنا

    لَمَعت بَطشاَ بواترُه

    Neither does he attack nor encounter

    Victorious in all that he undertakes

  15. لا اِنبرَى يَلقى هنا وَمنى

    ظافِراً فيما يبادرُه
