من لعين اروقة لا تنام

مل منها يا للرجال الظلام

With sleepless eyes I gaze upon the horizon,

Weary of darkness, O men, and filled with sorrow.

حشوها الجمر لم تطب برقاد

ولحزن فدمعها سجام

My heart burns with embers that find no rest,

And with grief, my tears flow in streams.

وفؤاد مني جريح كواه البي

ن لهفاه والغريم الغرام

My wounded heart languishes in yearning

For loved ones, consumed by devotion and desire.

غاب عني من الاحبة قوم

لهم القلب يا هذيم مقام

Those dear to my heart are gone from me,

Yet their memory lingers, never to fade.

اتمنى شهودهم حالة الن

وم ويوما قد تصدق الاحلام

I long to see them again in waking dreams,

And hope someday these dreams will come true.

كلما قلت آن ابان قربي

منهمو ابعدت بي الايام

Each time I say our reunion draws near,

The days push it farther away from me.

دام لي قربهم زمانا ولكن

ما لشيءٍ من الفواني دوام

For a time they were close, but alas,

Nothing in this life can last forever.

آه يا سعد هل تجود الليالي

ولهذا الشتات يلفى انتظام

Ah, will the nights be kind, I wonder,

And bring an end to this separation?

وسروراً سأبذل الكل مني

يوم تدنو من الخيام الخيام

Gladly I would give all I have

To see our tents pitched side by side again.

ليت شعري والحادثات ظلال

اين تلك الاعيان والاعلام

Were it but known if trials are but shadows,

Where are those people and days of joy?

قد طوتها الايام من بعد نشر

نشره طاب من شذاه الانام

Time has folded them after spreading

The fragrance of their fellowship to the world.

كل شيء سوى المهيمن فان

ولعمري بعد الوصال انصرام

All things perish except the Eternal,

And after union comes parting, such is life.

منزل الغائبين حضرة قلبي

فعليهم من السلام السلام

In my heart dwell those who are absent,

Upon them, greetings of peace.
