1. قالوا فُلان خَفيف فَاِبتَدَرت لَهُم

    بِعُذره ثُمَّ لَم أَخرُج عَن الصَدَدِ

    They said so-and-so is fickle, so I rushed

    To defend him, yet did not deviate from composure.

  2. فَقُلت ما فيهِ نَقص لَو وزنت لَكُم

    صِفاته يا بدور الحلم وَالرَشدِ

    I said there is no flaw in him. If I were to weigh

    For you his traits, O full moons of dreams and wisdom,

  3. ما خَفَّ مِن عَقله يَوماً فَقَد ثَقلت

    بِهِ الطِباع فَلَم ينقص وَلَم يَزدِ

    His intellect has never lightened. Rather,

    His nature has been weighed down by it, neither less nor more.
